Give Us Your Thoughts

Senator Cornyn has lead the charge in Washington to find ways to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and the search for alternative energy to help ease consumer strife at the pump.

Recently he has spoken on the issue on CNBC and Fox News. He also wrote a detailed Op-Ed on the issue.

The campaign wants to hear from you now.....what are your thoughts on the gas crunch and what ideas do you have to fix the rising cost of gas?

My solution is this; we should drill in Alaska and take advantage of the abundance of oil on our own soil until we are able to become independent from the substance.

I agree with all of the above...

1) open more areas to drilling... the chinese are drilling off Florida, why can't we.

2) tax incentives for alternative fuels. I could power my entire house with solar power for $40K but at present that is a 10 yr payout. For a tax break it might make the investment more palatable

3) Nuclear, nuclear, nuclear... it is a proven, safe, cost effective technology. Our navy has run on it for years. And now the French are decades ahead of the US in this area.

4) But what has not been said is this... the market will correct the issue. Driving paterns will change, technology will be make alternatives more affordable and the auto industry will have to create more fuel efficient cars, with or without legislation. What is important is to STOP CRIPLING AMERICAN INGENUITY WITH LEGISLATION! Do not bail out the us auto industry for lack of forethought. Do not pander to a few environmentalists over the good of the nation. But by all means, let market forces work... they will create a better solution than the government could ever imagine. It may be painful getting there, but it is the pain that has given America her strength.

We used to live in California and heard a lot about offshore drilling and expected environmental problems.  On the opposite side the drillers and producers sometimes failed to be responsible when a mess did happen.  Since perfection is improbable, is there an insurance function here for the government, where producers and operators put funds in escrow for use if disasters happen?  And set it up with realistic amounts!

Thanks for your active interest in this issue. I believe this is a very hot issue to most people. What an opportunity for the Republicans to blast the Dems with an issue where 81% are in favor of increased production to bring down prices. Let the Republicans use a campaign slogan of "Do you want over $4 a gallon gasoline as Democrat policies bring or pay less than $2.50 a gallon using Republican proposals".

STOP THE INSANITY!!!!!

DRILL NOW!!!!!

There is no reason why America with all it's resources is in the position we are in (on our knees) right now. We have got to stop this insane notion that we are in control of this planet. I want to be a good steward just as much as anyone but we have got to face fact's and stop fearing fiction.

We need to start drilling (thirty years ago) now or we will not have a chance in the near future. Sen. Cornyn is absolutely correct that Washington has failed us so now it is up to us to let them know that we are not going to sit by and let them continue to fail us.

Write, call, email, whatever you can do but let them know that you are not going to take this kind of poor represntation. So do it, DO IT NOW!!!

Drill in Alaska, off-shore, in North Dakota and Montana, in the Rockies, and anywhere else we have proven and recoverable reserves.

Here are a few ideas. 1.) Gas tax holiday, that could help greatly. 2.) Drill in Alaska, it has been 30 years since we have built a new refinary. 3.) generally just cut taxes, then more people will be able to afford the gas.

I think artificial pricing is alot like artificial insemination. Why cant we just invest and do the dirty work ourselves? Its not a question of whether or not we have the means, It is a question of whether or not America still has the balls.

The United States Senate and the United State House of Representatives needs to introduce bills that says "yes" to ALL sources of energy, and "no" to more regulations and mandates.

We need to "Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less!"

"Our government needs to start investing MORE money in solar energy or some new form." Its not economical. We already spend a lot on solar research andsubsidies, but they are really not worth it. Cornyn was in Austin boosting Austin as Solar city. Great. More taxpayer money for very little electricity generation.

Subsidies for ethanol are hugely expensive and counterproductive. End them now.

We would get a lot more bang for energy dollar putting more into nuclear, including nuclear technology that can recycle and reuse spent nuclear fuel aka 'nuclear waste'. We should also drill now in ANWR, offshore and elsewhere.

The Democrats have an anti-energy agenda, we need a pro-energy agenda. Yes to drilling, offshore gas, nuclear, shale, clean coal, hydro and wind. And yes to energy research, including biofuels and solar, but no to costly subsidies that become boondoggles (like ethanol).

Congress needs to do their due diligance to their Constituional duty to the American people and quit allowing radical environmentalists and activist judges to dictate American politics. We need to turn the American people loose to drill for oil wherever necessary while simultaneously researching new energy sources. Unfortunately it seems we have few in Congress who will brave the fight with the powerful liberal organizations and stand up for the Constitutional rights of Americans. I pray for strength for the good folks like Senator Cornyn to light a fire under the passive Congress and begin a fervent war on the takeover of America by these liberal tactics. We must stand up for our constitutional rights as Americans now. America First!! God shall bless these efforts if we pray for his guidance.

Why is it we are sitting on top of the Barnett Shale and there are less than ten stations in D/FW that offer CNG as a vehicle fuel source? I would buy a CNG car in a heartbeat if I had somewhere to refuel it.

We need to take an aggressive two step approach towards ridding the Unites States of it's dependence on foreign oil.

In the short term, we need to pump more oil and produce more fuel domestically.  That means drilling in ANWAR and off coast.  That means building more refineries, preferably in areas that are not subject to hurricanes or earthquakes.  We need to get rid of these boutique fuels and allow the refineries to make larger production runs of just a few types of gasoline.

In the long run we need to invest heavily in nuclear power to supply our electrical needs.  Cheap nuclear generated electricity will make battery powered vehicles more economically feasible and the market will drive further investment into developing more efficient deep cell batteries.

Nuclear power will also reduce the consumption of LNG and make it available for vehicle use.  Building the infrastructure for the delivery of LNG will be quite the undertaking, but the market will do so if driven by market forces.

We need to get out of the using food to make fuel business, it is a failed experiment.  If we must head in that direction, food by products and refuse would be a more viable alternative.

Speaking of trash...  what ever happened to trash burning power plants?  Turning trash into electricity seems to be a much better idea than locking it in a municipal landfill.

Just a couple thoughts.

1.  Increase our refining capacity.  No new refineries in decades is insanity.

2.  Open up drilling in ANWR and off the Cont'l shelf of both coasts and the Gulf. And that's just for starters....

3.  Get rid of the "every state gets to pick the blend of gas" they want.  The dozens of blends reduce refining capacity which is already stretched to the limit.

4. Get rid of the ridiculous ethanol blends.  I have tracked my gas mileage forever and have noted that each summer when the ethanol blend comes out I lose 2-4 mpg and pay MORE at the pump for an inferior gasoline product.

Our government needs to start investing MORE money in solar energy or some new form.  It is ridiculous what we are paying.  Escpecially mothers like myself who have several kids and have to haul them around everywhere.

In dealing with gas I like Mccain's gas tax holiday but more needs to be done, there is no reason we should be paying 4.00 a galloon.

Why hasnt someone mass produced the hydrogen engine yet?  This is where we need to be heading to eliminate fuel costs.

I think we need to convert the shale. I think cities need to offer refunds for converting cars to propane or lng. I'm looking in to propane myself.

I am sick and tired of the Democrats blocking drilling in Alaska.

We need our office holders to fight for ANWAR drilling and off shore drilling.
